Go Cuba! Go Cinema!

A group of Cuban filmmakers will be able to get their projects off the ground thanks to the financial backing of World Cinema Amsterdam, as part of the GO CUBA! initiative.

The Dutch film festival, devoted to world film production, selected eight projects including documentaries, shorts and feature films out of a total of 40 entries.

Among the selected filmmakers stand out Alan González with his project Amorfa, Ana Alpízar with El pescador, Estela María Chaviano with Enma, Marta María Borras with Un instante de belleza, Rafael Castro with Paco y Lucía and Alejandro Alonso with his documentary project Citrus Tristeza Virus.

A selecting committee evaluated all the projects, in terms of both content and budget. The process favored those filmmakers who managed to link local issues with universals, showing a high artistic and thematic level.

GO CUBA! is an initiative of the World Cinema Amsterdam foundation, carried out in part with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Relations and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Havana. Its first edition took place in 2015.

At the ceremony for the announcement of the grants, it was made public that the deadline of entries for the next edition will be March 1, 2017.
