Buena Fe Reaches Out

The Cuban duo Buena Fe, formed by Israel Rojas and Yoel Martínez, is one of the few ensembles which manage to reach almost every sort of audience in the island. Their multi-layered and sly lyrics, along with a distinctive rhythm and the sensible production of their music videos, have ensured success.

Many years after coming out of Guantánamo and winning over all of Cuba, Buena Fe now takes the leap beyond borders to make their music international. As Israel Rojas said on the duo’s Facebook page, ‘they’re out’.

Buena Fe have just returned from a tour of four American cities: Miami (where they performed at the James Airline Center, with a capacity of four thousand people), New York, Houston and Tampa; in addition to Puerto Rico. On those stages, the duo performed next to Cuban expatriates, Latinos and Americans.

This second visit to the US was smoother for the musicians, after they faced several unpleasant situations for political reasons during their first stay in that country.

Meanwhile, as part of their opening up to the world, Buena Fe promotes a new single with Ricardo Arjona, a Guatemalan singer who is much-esteemed by Cuban and Latin American audiences.

‘Para bien o para mal’ is one of Arjona’s legendary songs, and the collaboration is part of his new album. The arrangement is by Yoel Martínez, who worked very closely with the Guatemalan singer’s team during production.

The single was recorded in Miami, and it is now out in both Cuba and the US.

In 2015, Buena Fe signed with Metamorfosis, Arjona’s record label. They then put out the record Soy, a compilation album meant to expand their market.

Buena Fe now has new material in production, which should finish recording in August, and which the duo hopes to release in March next year.
